2026CARE Opens on 9th of October:
Featuring Its Inaugural Art-Design Exhibition “DRIFT”

London, UK CARE is pleased to present DRIFT, its inaugural art-design exhibition and long-term research programme, tracing how matter and agency are sustained at lateral equilibrium between control and its loss.

From "dérive" to the present condition of movement, drifting has evolved from a way of escaping prescribed routes into a condition shaped by the systems it once sought to evade - an ontology where movement continually produces structures through tension and displacement.

DRIFT takes the mechanics of motorsport drifting as a model of this condition. As rubber slides against asphalt and momentum pulls the machine towards the edge of its movement, its wheels point one way while its mass carries it laterally elsewhere, with control sustained through a sequence of corrections.

Following CARE's spatial framework, DRIFT examines the tension and volatility of this shifting temporal condition as a way of understanding control, release and freedom. Friction becomes central, grounding movement in material contact, leaving violence, heat, noise, abrasion and residue as evidence. Creating damage while generating grip, this contradiction emerges through the relation between spatial methodology and material presence.

DRIFT therefore does not treat the loss of control as liberation. Instead, it occupies the interval before this contradiction is resolved: beginning when an intended trajectory has failed and ending before that failure can be stabilised, interpreted and reorganised into a new order.
